A couple heading to Merzouga follows roughly the same route as a group of ten: same road, same stops, same dunes at the end.
What changes are the small choices you make along the way — and above all the choice of desert camp, where you spend the night that really stays in the memory.
There is no such thing as a "couples-only" tour as such.
It is more a matter of adjustments: a more secluded tent, a less hurried pace, sometimes a dinner served away from the rest of the camp.
For official information on the kingdom's regions and transport, the Moroccan National Tourist Office remains a good reference.
Why does the desert camp make almost all the difference?
In a traditional desert camp, the tents are close together, the bathrooms often shared, and the atmosphere revolves around the communal campfire with other travellers.
It is convivial, sometimes even the best memory of the trip — but it is not the intimacy you are looking for on a honeymoon.
The luxury desert camp changes that balance: a private tent with bathroom, nicer bedding, often a position slightly apart from the main camp.
The price goes up accordingly, but for two or three nights on a trip, the difference is felt most after sunset, when the rest of the camp falls asleep and only the silence and the sky remain.
Neither option is a bad choice.
The traditional camp works if you like the communal atmosphere and want to keep to a tight budget.
The luxury camp works if privacy matters more than price.
Private or shared group?
On a shared group, from 80 € per person, you travel with other couples or families in the same vehicle, with stops fixed in advance.
It is the most economical option, and it works well if you have no objection to sharing the road and the camp with friendly strangers.
In a private vehicle, the rate is quoted on request, for the complete journey, driver included.
The advantage is not just comfort: it is the freedom to linger longer at a viewpoint, push back the departure by half an hour, or skip a stop that does not interest you.
For a couple who want quality time together rather than a minute-by-minute schedule, that is often what matters most.

What people often forget to mention
The road is long, whatever your starting point.
Summer days easily exceed 40°C, which limits walks outside the cool morning and evening hours.
And a night on camelback is not comfortable for everyone: the ride lasts about an hour, on a rigid saddle, over uneven ground.
Nothing insurmountable, but better to know before booking than to discover it on the dune.
Practical tip
If a luxury desert camp fits your budget, book it for the last night of the tour rather than the first: after two days on the road, the privacy and comfort are felt more than on arrival, when you are still full of energy.
