An unforgettable sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Breakfast at camp, then the drive back via the Dades Gorges and Ouarzazate.
A UNESCO-listed fortified village
The Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah is not just a photo stop: its earthen alleyways, ochre towers and centuries of history make it one of the most memorable stages of the trip, long before you reach the dunes.
Built along the old caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech, this fortified village has preserved its traditional rammed-earth architecture, with communal granaries and tower-houses that have stood for centuries facing the Ounila valley.
The site has also served as a backdrop for numerous international productions — Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia — without ever losing its authentic character, still home to a few local families.
- Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987
- A guided visit is available on site to understand the rammed-earth architecture
- A walk through on foot is recommended rather than just a drive-by stop

A night at the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes
After the sunset camel trek, it's time for the desert camp: a traditional dinner, Berber songs around the fire, then total silence under a starry sky rarely seen elsewhere.
The arrival at the dunes is by camel, in a small caravan, for about an hour across the golden sand ridges of Erg Chebbi. It's often the moment travelers remember most from the trip.
Once night falls, far from any light pollution, the Milky Way becomes visible to the naked eye — an experience few places in Europe or North America still allow.
- About a 1-hour camel trek across the dunes at sunset
- Traditional Berber dinner and music around the campfire
- Night in a tent, with the option of a luxury camp depending on the package

The real Sahara, 3 days from Marrakech
Merzouga is the gateway to Erg Chebbi, Morocco's tallest dunes. Our 3-day tour takes you across the Atlas Mountains, ancient kasbahs and the desert — not just a transfer, a complete adventure.
Morocco's tallest dunes
Erg Chebbi changes color all day long: orange at sunrise, golden at noon, deep red at sunset.
A journey, not a transfer
High Atlas, Ait Ben Haddou, Todra Gorges, a night under the stars — every stop is a discovery in its own right.
Authentic and local
Berber guides, family-run desert camps, a nomadic music evening — a real immersion, not a packaged tour.

- • Comfortable shoes
- • Warm jacket (cool nights)
- • Cap & sunglasses
- • Sunscreen
- • Headlamp
- • Power bank
- • Reusable water bottle
- • Small soft bag (the rest stays in the vehicle)
Types of desert camp

Merzouga or Zagora?
Both lead to a real erg of dunes, but the experience differs: Zagora (Erg Chegaga) is farther from Marrakech and its erg is larger but less visited, with a smaller choice of camps. Merzouga and Erg Chebbi remain the most accessible choice for a first trip — dunes reaching 150m, a shorter drive and a wider choice of accommodation.
Much more than a camel ride
Camel trek
The classic: about 45 minutes each way, at the slow pace of the desert.
Sandboarding on the dunes
Ride down the sand slopes on a board — accessible to everyone, guaranteed fun.

With no light pollution, the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye from camp.
Berber music evening
Traditional drums and songs around the campfire, under the Sahara sky.
Quad biking
Desert tracks, oases and nomadic villages off the beaten path.
Khamlia village
10km from Merzouga, home to Gnawa musicians of sub-Saharan origin.
