A camp still little known
Merzouga Camping Sahara is a tent desert camp set up in Erg Chebbi, in the eastern part of the dunes. To date, only one review appears on its listing, rated 5/5 — which does not allow a reliable portrait of the experience, but at least gives a positive indication on a first stay.
The formula remains that of the traditional desert camp in this area: Saharan tents, dinner under the stars, a campfire brought to life with music, and a camel ride to reach the camp from the track.
At a glance
The tents
The Saharan tents are set up with traditional weaving, rugs on the floor and camping bedding. As in most desert camps in this price range, the comfort stays decent without being hotel-standard: that is the price of sleeping actually in the middle of the dunes rather than on the edge of the village.
Dinner and the campfire
Dinner is served under the tent, usually a tajine prepared on site, followed by an evening around the fire with Berber songs and percussion. Once the music ends, the desert silence quickly takes over again.
The camel trek
The journey to the camp is done on camelback, usually at sunset on the way in and at sunrise on the way out — two moments when the light completely transforms the look of the dunes.
What to know before booking
With only one published review, it is hard to guarantee the consistency of the service from one stay to the next. Travellers looking for an address with a more solid review history can compare with other camps in the Erg Chebbi area before booking, or contact the property directly to ask their questions before arriving.
Location
The camp stands in Erg Chebbi, eastern sector, reachable by 4x4 then on camelback.
