A camp on the Khamlia side
Unlike most of the camps grouped around Erg Chebbi, Camp Erg Znaigui sits on the Khamlia side, the village known for its Gnawa musicians and their krakebs. It is an area a little further south, less busy than the tourist heart of Merzouga.
The camp follows the classic Saharan desert camp formula: tents, dinner outdoors, campfire and camel trek, with the advantage of being right next to a village whose cultural identity remains strong.
At a glance
Night under canvas, dinner and music
The Saharan tents are equipped with mattresses and thick blankets, needed when the temperature drops sharply once the sun goes down. Dinner is served under the stars, usually followed by a campfire set to local songs.
The proximity to Khamlia lends itself particularly well to a musical evening: the Gnawa rhythms that made the village's reputation can find their way into the campfire atmosphere, depending on the groups staying that night.
